Our buyers travel all over the country to find gift ideas that are unique. From coast to coast, north to south, we visit with over 10,000 showrooms a year to find those perfect items. A gift that is rare, extraordinary, and timeless yet somehow ahead of its time.
I have been in this business since I was 20 years old. I originally bought this business to provide me with income while I was in school. I was planning to sell the business after undergrad and take the proceeds to pay for law school. I soon realized that I truly enjoyed what I was doing and chose not to go to law school. In 1996, I purchased an English Bulldog named Brighton. Hundreds of customer came in just to see the puppy. Shortly thereafter, I changed the name from Mail Center to Bulldog Postal. Within 3 months, sales were up almost 30%!!! She became the store personality. She was the superstar that everyone loved. Customers would bring her treats everyday. When she passed in February of 2007, sympathy cards poured in. We will be adding two more bulldog puppies in the fall.
In the spring of 2002, I decided to double my square footage and add retail. There was a card store about 2 miles away that the entire neighborhood went to buy their fine greeting cards. The owner retired and closed up shop. I immediately saw a niche that I could capture since the audience was left with their hands in the air asking themselves where they could buy nice greeting cards. I saw this as my window of opportunity and jumped at the chance. At the time, this was a new idea. Most postal centers just provided shipping, mailbox rental and copy services. I realized that more and more people were buying their own fax machines that had the ability to make copies. I chose to reduce my office supply exposure and go after the retail market. We now carry over 700 greeting cards along with a plethora of gift items ranging in price from $0.99 to $300.00. Here at Bulldog Postal, a customer can come to the store, search for a gift, pick out a card, choose a gift wrap design and provide us with an address to mail the gift off to.
We have cut out the multiple steps of going to a department store for the gift, a drug store for the greeting card, a gift store for the gift wrap and a post office to mail the gift. One stop shopping!!!
